Starting in the early 1990s, new safety regulations required Christmas light sets to be redesigned to use heavier-duty double-insulated wiring. Several Pifco sets were updated to meet the new standards.
At the same time, sets still using older screw-in type bulbs gained new push-in bulbs instead. Additionally, 35-bulb sets ceased production and were replaced with the more commonplace variant of 40 bulbs.
These designs were often given model numbers that mirrored those of their predecessors. For example, the Victorian Lanterns set was renumbered from model number 1325 to model number 2325 upon redesign.
